Mark - Russian Language and Area Studies 2007

The program strengthened both my ability and confidence in speaking Russian. It often happens that students study a language without ever going to the country where that language is dominant. I’m very thankful that ACTR understands the difficulties this presents to students who desire a high speaking proficiency. Having met with native speakers of Russian and with my current Russian language tutor, I often hear phrases such as “you speak Russian well,” or “you know a lot of words that other students don’t know.” Though I’d like to attribute this to my scholastic brilliance, I admit that I believe these statements are true because I was given the opportunity to live in Russia.
